My Heart Attack

Even before surviving a near-fatal heart attack while on vacation in 2024, I had always promoted Women’s Heart Health. Once a year, I would invite the fabulous cardiologist Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum to speak to my Wise and Wonderful Women’s group and what she shared ultimately saved my life:

  1. ONE IN THREE WOMEN DIE from heart disease (stroke, aneurysm and of course heart attacks ) in our country (vs. 1 in 43 for breast cancer)
  2. Women often have different symptoms than men when suffering a heart attack or stroke.
  3. It is not uncommon for women to be dismissed or gaslit when being treated in the ER.
  4. We all need to trust our gut and if we feel something is wrong, you must advocate for yourself until you get proper care.

I am now even more passionate to help save lives and have stepped up to help the American Heart Association. I am honored to have joined the Executive Committee for their “Go Red Campaign for Women” and I will also be speaking around the city to raise awareness as part of their 2026 class of “Survivors.”
